Betting software and online casinos are bringing to light the number of people that fall trap to gambling addictions. And it’s not only punters at the betting shop. UK residents and people from all over the world become addicted to alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs every single day, and even with programs to help, many become stuck in a vicious circle.

Many betting software companies post links to agencies trained to help with gambling addiction. AA or NA is there to help with alcohol and drug addictions. There are many programs and patches to help with cigarette addictions. But do they help?

Sadly, statistics show that quitting is rarely effective overall. In fact up to 80 percent of alcoholics treated for a drinking problem will hit the bottle again at least once.

Between 60 and 90 percent of smokers will light up within a year of quitting, and more than 90 percent of the gamblers who quit on their own will eventually visit the betting software.

So does that mean betting software and alcohol addicts needn’t bother trying to quit?

“The last 10 years have given us a picture from a lot of different areas of science that once addiction sets in, it takes on the character of a chronic illness,” says director of substance abuse services at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City, Jon Morgenstern. “It’s very difficult for people to maintain behavioural change.
